Artist Statement:
“My paintings are about order and tranquility. One of the most important
purposes of my work is to discover and present harmony in contrast to
the frequent disorder and tension of everyday life. My goal is to
provide technically capable paintings imbued with a sense of well-being.
They are affirmations of the joy I find in the real world, filtered
through my perception and formal sensibility. I strive to heighten the
clarity of visual reality and affirm my positive view of the world.
The technical aspects of these works include efforts to group objects in
ways that create points of rest and contemplation. Light always plays a
key role in my paintings. I often employ it to provide pathways through
the image for the eye. Maintaining the integrity of form and volume is
important to me. It is particularly challenging when working with
radically different light conditions in a single painting. I’ve always
considered light and cast shadow to be my ‘wild card’ for guiding the
eye and enhancing the composition.
My aim has been to display orderly and peaceful settings rendered with
the highest skill I can muster. I hope those who see these paintings
will enjoy them.”
