Tayloe
White’s Bio/Artist’s Statement:
Art’s
power to evoke discussion of ideas was revealed to my three-year-old
self the moment after my mother discovered the laundry room walls I had
carefully embellished while she was talking on the phone.
As a college student at the University of Florida, I sketched and
water-colored the places I traveled in order to relish details I knew
I’d otherwise forget- the marbled bark of a plane tree in Provence or
the particular silvery sage water of Walloon Lake, Michigan.

As I share my story and experience other’s stories through art, I
reconnect to my truest self and am knit more deeply into my community.
My work expresses the interest I have in neuroaesthetics, the scientific
study of how the brain is changed by experiencing and creating art.
Based on findings from the latest neuroscience research I’ve developed a
process for creating my art called ARC (arbitrary randomized
constraints). Painting while using ARC has enabled me to explore the
edge of chaos in my work and has informed a new conceptually focused
direction to my work.
This process has allowed me explore the edge of chaos in my work In
them I see the breadth of human experience. Our passions. Our
limitations. Our possibilities.
Art is the on-going conversation
that awakens me to ordinary miracles that show up in the simplest of
forms. The specific experiences conveyed in my work are personal and
reflect my own history but my hope is that my work will remind you of
your own story, and how your story fits into the family of stories,
which we all share.
