Our History

Picture

The Jacksonville Artists Guild is the legacy of well known and respected artist, Christine Schmidt (1922-2009.) In the fall of 2009 Carole Mehrtens and Bill Schmidt approached Jon Coffee, Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, with the idea of creating an artists guild. He was immediately enthusiastic and supportive to fulfill Christine’s long-time desire and dream to establish an artists guild for Jacksonville to encourage and support area artists and those interested in art appreciation. The first formal meeting of the Jacksonville Artists Guild was held on October 9, 2009 at St. Mark’s Leatherbury Hall.
