JAG Featured Member Artist
Dana Delarme is a full-time radiology nurse and avid artist. Her works are well known in Jacksonville, Fl as well as Memphis, Tn. Her art is collected nationally in both private and corporate collections. She is most well known for her work in acrylic and oil on canvas, but also creates mixed media pieces. Her works range from abstract to realism. Pet portraiture has become her most requested commissioned artwork followed closely by her large abstract pieces for commercial venues.
"Painting is a way to engage with the world on my own terms. My emotions are always on the run, (take a moment to pity my husband and children). Painting allows me to grab onto a feeling, and flesh it out on canvas. Sometimes there is an immediacy-a face, dimly lit, isolated and peculiar. Sometimes there is a simple need to capture something beautiful. Observing a subject while painting is a wholly different way to see and know it. This carries over into daily life; your eye is pulled to colors, gestures, compelling but disparate items, a ceiling of clouds overhead.... It is a way into my life, as a participant, as an observer. It's a protest to time getting away from me; I sit, examine, and create."
Dana has participated in JAG's Country Roads Exhibition at South Kitchen, The Naughty Show at Vault at 1930 Gallery and last years RAP Art House exhibition. She has also donated work to charitable organizations such as "Friends for Life", a community outreach for people affected with HIV.
