JAG Featured Member Artist
Sophie has a BFA from the University of GA, and after eloping with her husband, they settled in North Florida during his Navy years.
Her early days were spent as a special needs parent and homeschooler while creating a business as a muralist in Ponte Vedra Beach - a prolific experience of capturing exotic gardens, foliage and wildlife aesthetics to transform a home with hand-painted art.
This began her love of fast-drying acrylics and layering textures.
She also savored the freedom of being a business owner, spending time with their 3 boys.
After a traumatic loss in 2002, of their oldest son (8), Joshua, to a rare heart disease, Sophie's art was a necessary outlet to remind her of God's love, even in our darkest valleys. It was cathartic and healing, seeking out references of magnified blooms and butterflies, and the beauty of everyday life. She began to get invitations to speak, sharing her art, and a message of hope through grief and loss. She shared our story in over 20 women's conferences and was featured in NE Florida galleries and Press from 2006-2010.
With a diverse profile in marketing and communications, growing other business entities, In 2016 Sophie became licensed with the largest Art dealer via the Furniture Market for many of her "Back Home" Farmhouse and Coastal works - country and coastal art that stemmed from memories of her home state of NC.
She also works PT as Development assistant at Mercy Support Services in Clay County, as they assist families in crisis.
and is on the Board of the Art Guild of Orange Park.
Her current works focus on savoring the process and simple joys we can glean in nature and everyday life in the south.
Her mediums include acrylic, watercolors and Bas relief sculpture with metallic glazes.
