ABBY HOWARD MURPHY

BIO
Abby is primarily self taught and her artistic perspective has developed through her volunteer and professional life as an environmental advocate: law of the sea with the International Institute for Environment and Development; illustrating dune plants of the Turks & Caicos; creating the original Superfund list for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; consulting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Everglades restoration; launching the University of North Florida Environmental Center; education programs on the St. Johns River with SJRWMD; and preserving iconic places with the North Florida Land Trust. An award-winning artist, working in both plein air and the studio; her works have been collected on 4 continents.

 ARTIST STATEMENT
As a champion of the environment from a young age, stewardship and inspiring exploration and appreciation of wild or iconic places are at the heart of my paintings.  I hope my art connects people to memories of experiences and where they call home.   Working primarily in oil or acrylic, seascapes, skyscapes and forests are inspired by my northeast Florida home and travels. I enjoy playing up and preserving bits of pure in mother nature’s palette visible to my eye, but often elusive in any photograph.  

MEMBER: Jacksonville Artist Guild, First Coast Plein Air Painters, St Augustine Art Association, Jacksonville Urban Sketchers, Pines & Palms (Florida-Georgia Artists), the Florida Artist Group, Oil Painters of America and is a past member of the Jacksonville Coalition of Visual Artists.
